Janine Antoni
Tangent
2003

C-print in artist’s frame
Edition 9/10 + IV AP

30 × 40 in (76.2 × 101.6 cm)

Janine Antoni carefully articulates her relationship to the world, giving rise to emotional states that are felt in and through the senses. In each piece, no matter the medium or image, a conveyed physicality is meant to speak directly to the viewer’s body. In Tangent, Antoni balances on a police barricade bearing the text “Police Line Do Not Cross.” Teetering there, she questions the law’s capacity to curtail the body’s movement in space.
